About Us

Literature in Pubs (LIPs) was formed in late 2006 as an offshoot of the very successful community group 'Philosophy in Pubs' (PIPs). The idea was to provide stimulating discussion of literature in the informal atmosphere of a pub or coffee bar. The group was designed to allow people from all walks of life and backgrounds to come together to share a common interest and improve clarity of literary thought.

The goal is to allow anyone with an interest in literature to come along and explore their ideas in relation to a different piece of work each meeting. No prior experience is necessary, just an interest in the subject. It is up to members how they take part in the discussions, with no pressure talk. You can just listen if you wish, but we hope you will be interested enough to perhaps suggest a book choice yourself!
